Trek to Triund...

OMG, What a trek that was to Triund...

We are four friends(Arya, Jitendra , Sumit and myself) decided to go for hill station ride for a weekend gateway from delhi. Arya came with the idea to go to Triund.

Prior to this trip I heard about snowfall used to happen in Triund during March. So went for it after checking weather report as usual.

Started from Delhi early morning by car so that we could able to reach Mcleodganj before nightfall as we never been to that hill station. Triund is just 9 km from Mcleodganj. Mcleodganj is said to the home of Dalai Lama. You can witness if you reach the hill station by seeing the monuments and temples.

After having a delicious breakfast in murthal we headed for Mcleodganj. ust 2-3 small breaks and 2-3 showers of rain reached Dharmashala. Bit traffic jam for out side vehicle check-up for the up-coming cricket match supposed to happen in dharmshala.

By 8pm we reached Mcleodganj. And we came to that all hotels near the main road doesn't have their own parking space so had to search for private parking space. After some good bargain trick of Sumit we parked our car for one night and half day fee.

I share my ideas of trekking with all so that they pack the correct gears and clothes with less weight so it will be easy to carry. But still they missed some essentials like , sleeping bags, head caps, puncho/raincoat and good gripped shoes. Arya n Jitendra bought two pair of sports shoes near Chandigarh and they tried some funny handmade woolen head caps in Mcleodganj market and two sleeping bags for Sumit and Jitendra.

We had nice starters and dinner in the local market instead of the hotel we booked. You can try fish and chicken fry or gravy in many small stalls and it was really tasty. That night it rains heavily and we were bit worried and three of them doesn't have raincoats.

After full night rain, the next day

Anyhow we bought three raincoats in the morning and started for the trek after having bit heavy breakfast. We had packed all kinds of packed food/dry fruits and some instant food pack to cook in the hill if found the chance to set fire there.

Magic view cafe-1984.

It was bit straight for first 1 km and after that it was the real test for Arya and Sumit. :) They took more than 20 stops in the whole trek up to Triund. It's not funny but usual things for those who have some extra punds. But they are determined to reach there anyhow maybe by evening. :)

tea break time...
You will find some cafe in the way to Triund and they used to bring all the good by mules and its bit costlier than usual but worth in that height.
In the trail we met many trekkers including foreigners who were trekking to Triund. One group we met who were also planning to Snowline and Lahesh cave from Triund too. And we decided to go there but we were concerned about the weather too. So we thought to decide after reaching Triund. Some told that in this climate you shouldn't go without any guide as anytime you may face snowfall and heavy rain.

Lord Shiva Temple in Triund hill.

I reached around 2 pm and was exploring the place over to find a suitable place for our tents. A hot tea was really a booster in the chilled hill top.

Jitendra reached after 20 min and amazed by the hill top and the green filed in the hill top. You will find 2-3 rented campsites and some tents around but you can put your tent anywhere around it.

I choose this place near these two rented tents.

After Arya and Sumit reached we clicked some pics here and there and put our tent just behind those two rented tent as it was bit plain area than other area and it is just behind a shop.

And the things happened for what we were waiting for. Its the rainy time with hellstones in the top followed by heavy snowfall till morning.

With the first rain hellstone my tent top was bit damaged so its started leaking in the evening. So I put some piece of papers along with a plastic bag on the top. It sticks to the tent as it was wet snow above it.
But after some hour all washed away so the only way left was to wipe out the inside water drops with some dry cloth or napkins. In the next tent Jitendra was snoring like anything in that storm, can anyone believe that? And sometime Arya in my tent.

In the mid-night that strong wind with heavy snowfall is very scary in the hill top. But it was really an experience in that situation. Its a new experience for me too as I never camp stayed in the snow storm night.

The next day morning the green top covered with 2 feet of snow....

Beautifull hill tops near to Triund.

But we couldn't cover Snowline and Lahesh cave because of the unfavorable climate. We were 2-3 late to Triund. If we could reach Triund by 12Pm then it might be possible to cover that.

Anyway we enjoyed in Triund and experienced the inexperienced. You will love that challenge if you really love to experience these kind of situation/adventures.

Green patch after taking out the tent..

Hope you like this experience and felt the feel of our adventure...Till the next do trips and enjoy your life to fullest....See ya in the next... :)
